Today's Release -- All of My Heart, a Harbor Falls Romance

Releasing today. Sophie Jacobs' Harbor Falls Romance Series.

Small town, southern, and sometimes sassy. These sweeter romance stories fall in the lower heat level ranges. This series is a remake of Maddie James' contemporary romance single title books into a 20+ book series releasing monthly beginning now--and under a new pen name!

All releases are $0.99 during pre-order and release week. Grab them now!

A Harbor Falls Romance, Book 1: Sweet Hart Inn

Suzie Hart has it all. A beautiful home, friends and family, and the sweetest job in the world. She's the best darned cook in Harbor Falls, North Carolina, or so she's been told, and she has the street cred to prove it. She runs her own bed and breakfast inn, has written a cookbook, conducts cooking classes, food blogs every week, and caters for local special events and holidays. Life is perfect. Right?

Wrong. You see, happy-go-lucky Suzie has a secret. And all is well until that secret rides up to her doorstep on a bad-ass Harley and tosses her not-so-perfect little world into some kind of big, bad tumble.

Brad Matthews doesn't have a secret, he has a plan--and that plan includes luring Suzie back into his life. When she worked as his sous chef in Asheville, he had no intention of falling in love with the sassy chef, or any other woman for that matter. No room in his life for romance. But when Suzie disappeared and took Brad's heart with her, his good intentions shattered. Now that he's found her again, he's not about to let her alter the new path he's set out for his life--and hers.

Good morning! It feels like a good day for a mashup. Here are some things going on in my life.

Release date is in September 2017.

Introducing a New Me -- Taking Stock and Moving Forward

Good morning. Yes, I'm blogging. I've not been here much lately. I know, I know... But I'm here today and that counts for something, right?

I'm here to share with you that over the past few months I have taken a good hard look at my writing, my books, my sales, and my time. A year ago I started back at my old day job working full time. It was a necessary move and I knew that my writing would slow down and I wouldn't be able to produce and publish as quickly as I had in the past. As I predicted, the lack of releases (only 2 in the past year or so) has really affected my sales. I suspected it would and I've been proven true on that prediction.

So okay. I knew it would happen. Que sera sera. Let's move forward.

After some hard analyzation of the data surrounding my sales, what I had assumed was true was confirmed with the numbers -- cowboys and western romance are my bestselling titles. My suspense, paranormal, and even contemporary titles have seriously tanked in the last couple of years. Cowboy readers appear to be my target audience right now, and so I've decided to focus all of my future Maddie James releases in the cowboy/western romance subgenre. Hurray for cowboys!

But what about the other genres? I knew for a while I needed to focus -- I've written all over the board in various romance sub-genres and it is so difficult for me to define my readers and even create a brand around my work. About a year ago I had moved all of my erotica titles to another pen name, so that was already done. I had to think hard about the rest my titles for several weeks. I even went back and re-read some of my books and came to some conclusions.

1. All of my contemporary romance titles need updates. Some were written 20 years ago. Some 10 years ago. I am a better writer today than 10 years ago. I have some work to do here.

2. My suspense titles are all in good shape. They are current, edited well, with recently rebranded covers. Even though sales are low, I think these titles can be marketed along with my cowboys and I can eventually push them to pick up some steam.

3. I have fewer paranormal titles, and they are slugs when it comes to sales. I have some work to do here too, but these titles are my third priority. I'm going to hold on making decisions about these books for a while.

This was a pretty good bit of analyzation as I have fifty-some books in print (if you count all of the removed erotica titles).

So did I make a decision? Yes, I did. I am rewriting and rebranding ALL of my contemporary romance titles. Because some of them were sweet and some at higher heat levels, I knew I also needed to be more consistent with the heat in order to hit a specific target audience.

I also discovered this -- all of my contemporary romance titles were set in small southern towns. Duh. Since I have a lot of experience living in small southern towns, I guess that makes sense. But when I took a hard look at all of these scattered town books, I realized they all could basically be set in the same darned town -- and that's when it hit me that I really have a pretty extensive base of series material here.

That was a huge revelation and a lightning strike type of decision. One town, one series, one major overhaul. It won't happen overnight but the process has started. I have already pulled most (not all) of my contemporary titles out of the marketplace. I will be pulling them all soon. I'm currently rewriting and revising each title and will be re-releasing them UNDER A NEW PEN NAME.

Why a new pen name? I believe it will help with marketing, algorithm placement, 'also boughts', and audience. I have created a pretty strategic release and marketing plan, and all of that will unravel beginning in late July/early August.

So stay tuned. If you want to take a peek at the new me, check out my new Sophie Jacobs pen name and website. And while you are poking around, check out the reinvented Maddie James site too, as she's had a bit of an overhaul. Sophie also has a Facebook page if you want to follow her there.

So what about that time factor? New day job and all? No doubt my job is an all-consuming job and it's one I enjoy doing -- but after a year of adjustment, I'm ready to tackle the juggling act again. I'll drop some balls, I'm sure, but as long as I pick them back up, I'll be just fine.

This is all a work in process and I'll keep you up to date on the blog. This is my first official soft announcement with a newsletter post to follow in a few weeks. I'd love to have your feedback on my new plan, so feel free to comment below. Thank you for being awesome readers!

She’s from the wrong side of the tracks. He has a past she might not understand.
Mira Featherstone knows her place in life and it’s not with Jake Remington. Rich guys play on the wrong side of the tracks but they don’t bring girls like her home to mama. Jake Remington is a wealthy Texas cowboy whose family land borders the McCoy Highlands ranch, although he now practices law and lives in Kentucky. He’s back to settle a land dispute between his parents and the McCoys. He plans to take care of business and get the hell out of Dodge before he gets himself into trouble. Again.
Because trouble for Jake always comes in the form of a Texas beauty he can’t keep his hands off. The last temptation ended up with a lawsuit. But when he bumps into Mira coming out of his hotel room at Heath McCoy’s resort, keeping his hands off the hotel maid is impossible.

Friday Feature: Persephone Remembers the Pomegranates by Samantha MacLeod

You’ve heard it was the pomegranate.

Those six juicy, ruby seeds, staining my lips and fingers. Sealing my fate. Damning me.

Well, maybe so.

But that’s not entirely the truth.

Mortals assume our realm is separate from the living world, that we are somehow distant and inaccessible. That is not the truth. The underworld is a mere heartbeat away from the living world, lying like a velvet shadow across the entire mortal realm. When there is trouble in the sunlit lands, disease or famine or war, we know it. Often we know it before the mortals, and sometimes even before the gods.

So, despite the constant distraction of my husband’s body, it was mere days before we realized what my mother had done.

The first shades had died of exposure, freezing to death in what should have been a constant, pleasant climate. Hades’ brow furrowed at the influx. In the privacy of our chambers, he tried to console me.

“She’ll come around,” he whispered. “The other gods will never let this continue.”

I held my tongue. My heart and body longed for his words to be true; it had only been a matter of weeks, and already he was a part of me, his body as intimate and familiar to me as my own. Already the sunlit lands had lost their appeal, for they did not contain him.

The next round of shades came to the shores of the River Styx gaunt and pained, dead from starvation. The God of the Underworld bit his lip.

“It won’t last,” he told me, his breath soft against my neck. “She cannot hold the mortal lands in thrall.”

“You don’t know my mother,” I replied, and his voice stilled.

The numbers of the dead increased, grew to crowds whose size Hades reluctantly admitted he’d never seen before. The shores of the Styx tumbled with crowds; my heart ached. My husband assured me I had nothing to fear, but his words shifted away from promises that my mother’s curse upon the mortal lands could not continue and became vows that he would protect me. That he would keep me.
“I love you,” I said. “This is my home, and you, my husband. I’ll never leave.”

You don’t know my mother, I thought, my lips a tight, silent line.

Matchmaker, matchmaker bake me a match?

n. 1. One who arranges or tries to arrange marriages.

It's the season of love. Right? Tomorrow is Valentine's Day. That one day of the year devoted to people who are in love, or maybe are seeking love. Maybe it is the day to proclaim your love for another.

I love matchmaking stories. I also like secret admirer stories where the admirer gradually reveals his or her identify to the one he loves. I suppose I just like stories about people finding their own unique matches and living happily-ever-after.

Hey, I am a romance author, after all. Right? It's sort of required.

I find the concept of a matchmaker interesting. In times of past, dating wasn't a "thing" and matchmakers were all the rage. Generally they were commissioned by families who wanted to make sure their a child was matched with the right mate. Largely this may have been for economic or even political gain and had little to do with love. Those matches of convenience were the norm in many cultures. Forget love.

You can read more about the historical perspectives of matchmaking here and here

Several years ago I discovered that one of my characters had a knack for matching unlikely pairs for love in her small Smoky Mountain town. She successfully brought back together her estranged sister and her high school boyfriend, mending both of their relationships (hers with her sister, and her sister's with her ex). It was a very happy ending all the way around.

Since my character, Suzie, was also a chef, she soon became known as The Matchmaking Chef, and she even had a television show with that title. All told, Suzie matched at least 8 more couples in a series of novellas with titles like these:

Yeah. Cute titles, eh? Right now, you can get all 8 of these titles for less than a buck in the Month of Love -- February, in a boxed set. That's a sweet deal. Right?

Maddie James writes romance--but you can't pin her down to one genre. From flirty contemporary romance to edgy suspense to darker erotic titles, she's only trying to silence the people in her head. Learn more at www.maddiejames.com.

Friday Feature - Paging Dr. Cupid by Nancy Fraser

Newly appointed Chief of Emergency Medicine Dr. Garrett Langley can't seem to find a secretary to keep up with his demands. His love life isn’t going so well, either. He recently lost his long-time girlfriend to his older brother and saw a workplace romance end in disaster, leaving him with a busy career but no love life.

Piano prodigy Grace Valentyne forfeited the second half of her Julliard scholarship to come home to California and care for her mother. Now, with her mother gone, she must find a job in order to pay for the remainder of her education. When offered the opportunity to work for the physician nicknamed Dr. Cupid, she jumps at the chance.

Grace soon finds herself in over her head—and not just with the office equipment.  But falling for the boss won’t get her back to Julliard. She needs to keep her focus and not let the sexy doctor derail her professional goals.\

Sneak Peek:

Garrett tugged on the sleeves of the sterile gown and stripped it from his arms before tossing the stained garment in the nearby hamper. A quick glance at his wrist told him it was nearly nine-thirty. He pressed his thumb to his temple and reminded himself the headache would go away as soon as he had something to eat.

He’d spent the past twelve hours on his feet covering for two ER interns who’d not bothered showing for their twenty-four shift. He was tired, hungry, and most likely smelled like day-old fish. He was also in desperate need of a shave. He felt more like a bum than a respected physician.

Still, there was nothing he could do about it other than grab a quick bite and head to his office for a few moments of downtime before his eleven o’clock department head meeting.

He gathered up a bagel with cream cheese, an apple, and a large cup of black coffee from the commissary and took a left turn at the first corridor. He’d barely reached the halfway point in the long hallway when he saw her…his new secretary.

Much, much younger than her four predecessors, she was hunched over her typewriter, a long string of black ribbon in one hand, the unraveled spool from which it came in the other. He closed the distance between them and stopped in front of her desk.

A brief lift of her head was the only acknowledgement she gave of his arrival before she returned her attention to the items in her hands. “I’ll be with you in a quick minute,” she said, her voice far huskier than he’d expected given her young age. A shot of awareness skittered down his back.

Rather than speak up, he stood there watching while she fumbled with the broken ribbon. She’d obviously pushed the loose strands of chestnut hair from her face at least once or twice because streaks of dark ink adorned her left cheek. Even smudged, her alabaster skin was flawless.

Garrett cleared his throat, drawing her attention for a second time. “Excuse me,” he said, a bit more forcefully than he intended.

She set the ribbon and the empty spool aside and reached for a tissue to wipe her hands. “I’m sorry for keeping you waiting.” Motioning toward the typewriter, she added, “I’m afraid this contraption got the best of me.”

“It does look rather intimidating,” he teased, tamping down an outright chuckle.

“How may I help you? If you’re looking for Dr. Langley, he’s not yet arrived.”

Garrett straightened his stance, pulling himself up to his full six-foot-one. “I’m Dr. Langley. You must be my new secretary.”

About the Author:
Like most authors, Nancy Fraser began writing at an early age, usually on the walls and with crayons or, heaven forbid, permanent markers. Her love of writing often made her the English teacher’s pet, which, of course, resulted in a whole lot of teasing. Still, it was worth it.

Published in multiple genres, Nancy currently writes for four publishers. She has published twenty-two books in both full-length and novella format. In November 2016 Nancy celebrated twenty years as a published author and will release her 25th book in mid-2017.

When not writing (which is almost never), Nancy splits her free time between her five grandchildren. She’s also an avid traveler with Las Vegas being her favorite destination. Nancy lives in Atlantic Canada where she enjoys the relaxed pace and colorful people.

When Hailey stumbles upon a backpack full of money on her nightly jog, she is forced to flee the security of her secret identity.
Although the sudden appearance of a man that had been flirting with her earlier seems odd, Hailey accepts Parker’s help in getting the heavy bag home. Within moments of arriving, they escape under gunfire. The men it was intended for want it back, and Hailey has now made herself a target.
Safe in a motel room, the two of them discover the truth: although their meeting was an accident, Parker had been involved in the bag’s drop and she had been his assignment all along. Now, getting Hailey away safely is Parker’s new mission. Together they struggle to put together the pieces of Hailey’s past and discover that they have more in common than they thought.

Being on the run, keeping Hailey’s family safe, and searching for clues to put away the man that wants her dead are hard enough. Falling in love in the middle of it all was the last thing either one of them expected.
